Uses of Silver Bromide

The molecular formula of silver bromide is Agbr. The most common name of this compound is silver bromide but other names it is known by are; bromargyrite and bromyrite. The most common use of silver bromide in everyday life is in photography. Silver bromide is used in photography to help develop a photographic image. It can also be used for light sensitive eyeglasses and semiconductors.  Silver bromide is a good compound to use to help develop an image due to its properties. To use silver bromide in photography, it needs to be made into a photographic emulsion. This is formed with the help of a thin layer of gelatin. Gelatin is needed to increase the emulsion's light sensitivity. Since silver bromide is extremely sensitive to light, it will react with the light. This reaction with light causes the image of become darker. Silver bromide is not soluble in water which makes it perfect to use in the  manufacture of photographic emulsions. The insolubility of silver bromide with water suits photographic emulsion because water and silver bromide will not react and interfere with the process.
